Chelsea Townhouse

This Chelsea terrace was completely reconfigured and extended at the rear to create a calm, serene family home.

A continuous staircase forms the central thread of the layout, uniting and ordering all floors. Its handrail offers a tactile thread through the house, while the stair itself subtly shifts in proportion as it moves, reflecting the home’s hierarchy. At points, it curves through double-height spaces; elsewhere, it’s linear and lateral in form.

The design centres on a relaxed, informal atmosphere. Natural stone, timber, clay and linen are used extensively to lend a softness that contrasts beautifully with the home’s traditional exterior.
